Check for the Chip

If you take your credit card out of your wallet, what do you see? On the front of the card you see the logo of the credit card company, your name, and the card’s expiration date. Flip the card over and there’s a magnetic strip and a place for your unique signature. Now, flip again and on the front you may notice something else, a chip. Like the magnetic strip and your signature on the back, this chip is a unique identifier, created just for you.

This little chip has been added to your card for the increased security of your personal information. It’s like the lock on your front door. As this new technology integrates with all retail systems, you will still scan the magnetic strip of your card through a card reader machine, however if your card has a chip you will you will then be prompted to insert the card into the card reader in order to complete the transaction. This new process has been created to increase your ability to avoid identity fraud.

If you have not done a chip card transaction yet don’t worry, it’s simple. Watch this short video to learn how:
