Summer is right around the corner and spring is the perfect time to start planning summer vacations. Are you worried about being able to afford that much needed vacation? We are here to help.
For our summer savings series, we have complied a list of budget-friendly activities close to home. No need to travel very far, there’s plenty to do locally without the pinch at the gas pump. Look for a new blog each month featuring areas surrounding York County.
There’s no place like home, so let’s start with activities right here in York.
- Learn about York County history by visiting Downtown York. Tour the Historical Society Museum, the Agricultural and Industrial Museum and the Fire Museum. Schedule guided tours for the Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum and visit the Colonial Complex as well.
- Catch a show at The Pullo Center, DreamWrights Center for Community Arts, The Appell Center for the Performing Arts, The Strand Theater or The Belmont Theatre.
- Pack a picnic and spend the day in Airville. Head over to the Ma & Pa Railroad. Tour the Heritage Village, check out the buildings and ride the train then enjoy your picnic on the wrap-around porch. Visit the Indian Steps Museum and take a hike around the one-mile waterfall loop. Spend a couple hours or an entire day at Maple Lawn Farms. Pick your own fruit in the orchard, shop for delicious treats at the Farm Market or try the Maple Lawn Winery & Cider House tasting room.
- Just outside of York you can visit Wrightsville and Columbia for some fun. Learn about the burning of the Wrightsville-Columbia Bridge at the Wrightsville Historical Museum or check out the Burning Bridge Diorama. Take some “time” at the National Association of Watch & Clock Museum. Learn, create and taste at the Turkey Hill Experience. Bring your sneakers and hike over to Chickies Rock County Park for some trails and scenery.
